Staff Spotlight – August 2018

Nichole Lowe

How long have you been at Five Acres?
I’ve been here since October 2017
What do you love most about your job?
I love all of the animals that we get to give a second chance to here. Most of our animals come from euthanasia lists, so it’s awesome seeing a cat go home that was going to be euthanized.
So far, what has been your favorite moment or memory as a staff member?
My favorite memory was our Havana Brown Rescue. I fell head over heels in love with those cats, and watching them grow and learn to trust people for the first time was amazing to be a part of!
What drew you to a job at Five Acres?
The fact that it was a no kill shelter. I was wanting to get back into rescue, but knew I couldn’t go back to a shelter that euthanized.
Do you have a favorite past or present Five Acres animal?
Brownie and Valentine are my 2 favorites. Brownie was a Havana Brown that didn’t trust anyone for a very long time, he really made me work for his affection! Valentine was a cat thrown out of a car who did not appreciate being here, until he started working in our Cat Pawsitive Pro Program. I really bonded with him through training.
Do you have any pets of your own?
I have 2 dogs. A pug and an Aussie mix
When you are not working, what do you like to do in your free time?
When I’m not working I like to be outside with my son. I especially love to go camping and boating.
