On Wednesday, December 13th at 5:30 PM Five Acres Animal Shelter reached a milestone that we have never hit before. For the first time in our 44 years we reached 1,000 adoptions! After building a new canine building in 2012 and a feline building in 2016 to increase the number of animals we save, adoptions saw significant increases over the years. 2017 has been a big year for our growing shelter and we finally did it thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers and of course our adopters!
The lucky 1,000th animal to find his forever home was our gorgeous FIV+ boy, Goliath. This beautiful cat was such a looker and a lover he didn’t even step foot on the adoption floor. He went home straight from our intake room. As our feline coordinator, Dana, walked out from the back with this 15 lb., cat he looked around wide eyed because he had never seen our free roaming area. After he was placed into his new mom’s arms he snuggled and nuzzled her in front of cameras and his adoring fans.
This adoption also put us one away from 400 total for our feline adoptions, a huge jump from 264 in 2016. With a couple weeks left in 2017, there is no stopping now as every single cat and dog is Safe, Sound and Homeward Bound every day of the year.
